The To-Die-For Stepback:

Due April 26th, 2011

Kathryn Caskie’s Seven Deadly Sins Series

I love book series, especially ones that are joined together by one family (Mary Balogh’s Bedwyns, anyone?) because it gives you a chance to stay longer with characters after some of them have lived their happily ever after. There’s something comforting about visiting the same characters and the same world that you once read about.

Well, today I thought I would spotlight Kathryn Caskie’s series as it is based on a very intriguing premise-7 brothers and sisters, known as the Sinclairs, who each embody one of the seven deadly sins. I know, genius right?

The seven Sinclair brothers and sisters live for scandal and delight in disgrace . . . until their father decrees that they must reform.  Propriety has never come easily, but now they have no choice. Marry in haste…Or regret in poverty!

The first two books are out now and the third is coming out November 30th.

Book One: Greed

The Sinclairs of Scotland are known throughout society as The Seven Deadly Sins. Cast out by their father and denied their inheritance unless they mend their wild ways, they travel to London to seek respectability. No member of the clan is more scandalous than Sterling Sinclair, the Marquess of Blackburn. The ladies of the ton are powerless to withstand his rakish charms…until Miss Isobel Carington comes along.

Ten thousand pounds if she marries Sinclair!

Isobel is horrified to learn that’s the amount wagered at White’s Club— and now all of London is eagerly betting on her future! She’s already publicly spurned the Marquess, a man she hardly knows, but she’s sure he is up to something as he launches a bold campaign of seduction anyway. But soon she is surprised to learn there is much more to this man than reckless adventure and bad behavior… and, against her will, she begins to relish the thrill of sinning with this stranger…

Book Two: Envy

Lady Ivy Sinclair can’t live without funds much longer, so she vows to land a sensible, serious husband her father will accept. But just when the gentleman is about to pop the question, another woman snatches away his attentions. Furious, Ivy hatches a plan—make him jealous by hiring a handsome man to impersonate a marquess—a marquess who happens to be madly in love with her.

The moment Ivy boldly kisses Dominic Sheridan—to test his fitness for the task at hand—she’s sure he’s perfect. What Ivy doesn’t know is that the blue-eyed rake isn’t acting at all, but intent on seducing her into committing the most wicked of sins.

Book Three: Sloth

Lady Siusan Sinclair, unaccustomed to lifting a finger, suddenly becomes a rather famous working teacher for high-born young misses. The dashing new Duke of Exeter, unaccustomed to anyone naysaying him, suddenly finds he quite enjoys his daily clashes of wit with his ward’s outrageous teacher. Then suddenly, everyone is back to their proper place in Society, but no one is thinking very proper thoughts.

Jonathan Pierce Thatcher, Viscount Remington, has returned home to London from Venice, free of all his family’s debts but is unable to forget the incredible Victoria he was forced to abandon as a means of protecting her from a scandal that had destroyed his life.

To his astonishment, Victoria’s dying father has chosen Jonathan and 2 others to vie for Victoria’s hand.
Before Jonathan can convince Victoria he’d be a worthy husband, he has to convince himself he is no longer the man he left behind in Venice.
Victoria finds herself falling for the only man she will ever love…for a second time.  But when she unearths the truth about the life Jonathan has been living in Venice, her heart is about to be tested.  Again.

Book Three: The Perfect Scandal

If there is anything Tristan Adam Hargrove, the fourth Marquis of Moreland has learned to avoid, it most certainly is scandal.  The dark and dashing lord is a true gentleman of honor who would never seduce a woman for his own gain
or pleasure.  But he plays the role of a gentleman for a reason, and it has nothing to do with respectablity.
When a raven haired beauty appears one night as his new neighbor, he knows better than to succumb to the desire he feels.  He knows little about her: only that she is high born, a protege of the Crown, vain, overly forward, and completely unsuitable for the dark, base passions he hides from the world.

If only his bedchamber window wasn’t aligned with HER bedchamber window.  If only she would cease taunting him by leaving those damn curtains open just for him.
If only it were not already too late to save her and himself from the scandal he is about to unleash in the name of an untamed passion that has kept him from becoming involved with women for years…

And if that teasing hint wasn’t enough for you, there is even a trailer to promote the series-

Bits O’ Silk-Spotlight on Delilah Marvelle

I recently read a post about authors who are ‘below the radar’ meaning those authors that aren’t as well known in the romance world or are under-rated. This really struck a chord as there are some authors out there who deserve more recognition than they get. One author who is very wrongly under the radar is Delilah Marvelle.

Delilah Marvelle is an author who debuted her first book, Mistress of Pleasure in October 2008 as part of her School of Gallantry series.

I personally adored her novel and found it fresh, hilarious, witty and very sexy 😉

Her second book, Lord of Pleasure was just as good, if not better.  It is such a pity then that her series had to end there.

Her publisher had decided not to publish the remaining books in her series. I say this is due to a poor lack of advertising on the part of the company as I only heard of her book when I came across it randomly. I’m glad I did. Delilah’s books are among the best romances I have ever read!

Thankfully, she now has a new publisher (who recognizes her talent) and a new series that will be released next year! Even better, it’s a back to back release meaning we will get to enjoy one book each month, three months in a row!

The books in order and release date are:

Prelude to a Scandal (Jan 2011)
Once Upon a Scandal (Feb 2011)
The Perfect Scandal (March 2011)

So far the only bit of information on them is that it is a series connected by a book known as the How To Avoid A Scandal, written by an Unknown author.

You can sign up for Delilah’s newsletter to learn more.

Delilah also has a great historical blog that focuses on the naughty aspect of history also known as A Bit O’ Muslin (which is the Regency slang for a prostitute), the blog is entertaining and definitely contains a side of history you’ll never learn in a classroom! Posts include topics on dildoes, condoms, and even the secret dirtiness in Shakespeare’s plays! Posts are published on the 1st of every month. Meanwhile, get a chance to check out Delilah’s first two books as I promise you won’t regret purchasing them. In contrast with her blog title, her books are real bits of  ‘Silk’ that deserve a place on every romance reader’s shelf.

I’m betting once her new series comes out, Delilah Marvelle will be a name every romance reader will have heard of.

So read her first two books and keep an eye out for her new series-cause it’ll be worth it. 😀

Don’t Tempt Me by Loretta Chase

Setting: Regency

Summary:

Spunky English girl overcomes impossible odds and outsmarts heathen villains.

That’s the headline when Zoe Lexham returns to England. After twelve years in the exotic east, she’s shockingly adept in the sensual arts. She knows everything a young lady shouldn’t and nothing she ought to know. She’s a walking scandal, with no hope of a future . . . unless someone can civilize her.

Lucien de Grey, the Duke of Marchmont, is no knight in shining armor. He’s cynical, easily bored, and dangerous to women. He charms, seduces, and leaves them—with parting gifts of expensive jewelry to dry their tears. But good looks, combined with money and rank, makes him welcome everywhere. The most popular bachelor in the Beau Monde can easily save Zoe’s risqué reputation . . . if the wayward beauty doesn’t lead him into temptation, and a passion that could ruin them both.

Review:

This is my first time reading a Loretta Chase novel and I have to say that I was looking forward to it. The blurb was promising, and when I snuck a look inside at the sexy stepback, I just knew I had to have it!

Sadly, the book did not live up to my expectations. The writing I had no complaint with as I found it easy, flowing and funny. The problem with the book was the lack of an exciting plot and as well as a lack of a tangible emotional connection between the heroine and hero.

We are told that Zoe is exotic and sensual and yet you never quite got that idea. Her English was practically perfect and she never did anything too over-the-top sexy. We are also told that the Duke of Marchmont is bored easily and never thinks about women other than in terms of pleasure. I also did not see much of this and the way he fell for Zoe was far too quickly and out of character. Most of the time though I felt like I was outside these character’s head-never really understanding them-I wasn’t part of the story much, just reading their adventures as if someone else told them to me.

Most of the time I found myself hurrying towards the end, and when the conflict came, it didn’t shock me at all.

I will mention the things I liked in the novel such as the beginning, which was funny and well written and set the story up nicely. It was a promising beginning. I’m just upset that the rest of the book did not live up to it.

I also enjoyed the historical perspective in it such as the mentioning of Princess Caraboo and the proper procedure for a making your curtsy to the Queen. This part I found interesting and unique as most romances though they are called historical romances very little of the time focus on any actual historical details of the life around them.

Overall, I have to say that I am willing to give another Loretta Chase novel  a try (as I enjoy her writing)but I won’t recommend this one.

Sensuality Level: Very Warm-Sex scenes quite long and not so detailed

Verdict-Just ok if you have nothing better to do on an afternoon but not reccommended

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
