Scoundrel In My Dreams by Celeste Bradley

Setting: 1816, Regency

Summary:

The child is his: Jack, or rather, Lord John Redgrave knows it the instant he glimpses the blue-eyed girl who was abandoned on the steps of his gentleman’s club. Her mother came to his room one dark night more than three years ago—and spurned his proposal the very next day. But when Jack visits Amaryllis Clarke to demand an explanation, he receives the shock of his life. For it wasn’t proud, worldly Amaryllis with whom he spent that soul-stirring night. It was her infatuated younger sister, Laurel.

Laurel was only seventeen when she gave her innocence to Jack—and paid a steep price. She might be overjoyed about her reunion with little Melody, but Laurel won’t surrender to her desires again. Jack, meanwhile, has no wish to give up the daughter he never knew he had. Nor will he part with the sensual woman who makes him feel alive with longing. He intends to use any means possible to convince Laurel to stay. After all, all’s fair in matters of seduction—especially to a scoundrel in love…

Review:

This is book 3 of the Runaway Brides trilogy.

I really loved the first two books in this series and I fell in love with this one too! Melody finally finds her father and we see Jack meet the woman of his dreams in the lovely and sweet Laurel. Celeste writes with her usual flare for hot, funny, tension-filled romance. I was hooked from the first and you will be too!

Jack is a rather unique take on the brooding, dark hero-He starts the novel off half a man, completely shut out from the world and the through the book we watch him start to come to life and healing through his love for Laurel. He does some stupid things, like not realizing how much he loves Laurel but he comes out a better man for it. He was a complex character that I felt was handled with skill. I enjoyed watching him come out of his shell little by little. As for Laurel, I simply loved her! She was such a lovely heroine and the perfect fit for Jack. She’s had her own problems too and I loved how she was willing to stand up for herself. Melody as usual was such a darling little thing and I loved how every scene she was in lit up with her bubbly and cheerful personality. I would really love to read more about her-how about her own love story, Ms Bradley?

The plot was unique in that most of the sexy stuff came in the form of flashbacks from that one night the two shared. And what a night :O Fans of a more erotic romance won’t disappointed in the scenes in this one! I enjoyed how the romance was developed though it was a bit improbable in a way. I would have liked it if the H and H spent more time together-it was more about the flashbacks of the time they spent together before that one night.

I also loved seeing the other heroes and heroines and how they were getting on. A trilogy is not a trilogy without connecting the books in some way! Overall, I felt this was a worthy ending to a brilliant and very original trilogy! Can’t wait to see what else she has in stores for us!

Sensuality Rating: HOT (Very explicit love scenes)

Final Verdict: Great ending to a great trilogy! Recommended!

Review:

After reading and loving the first book in this series, I couldn’t wait for the second one, especially since I had kinda fallen for the hero as a secondary character in the first one. 😉 Nick seemed like an awesome hero and since I personally have a soft spot for kind, honorable heroes rather than the more rakish ones, I was just dying to read this one.

I wish I could say I loved it and that it was a worthy sequel but that would be a lie. There was so much promise for this one but somewhere along the way, the potential was lost in a predictable, cheesy, improbable and frankly quite dull novel. The beginning was funny, witty and promised another great read but once the hero/heroine met, things went downhill.

It was clear from the start that the hero/heroine were meant for each other which heightened my anticipation for when they met, but I was very disappointed. They just didn’t have enough chemistry! Nick who was a great secondary character in the first one, was just plain bland here. It was enough to put me off the ‘good’ hero for good, which isn’t right because I know from personal experience, if done right, they make awesome swoon worthy heroes. He had his moments though but he couldn’t save this book. Isabel was your typical independent, spunky heroine but that was about it. I tried to sympathize with her situation but I couldn’t help feeling that she really didn’t have much to complain about. I just couldn’t admire her all that much. The conflict was also not big enough to keep me hooked and I just struggled through the book, waiting for it too pick up which it never did.

The plot was also full of improbabilities. I mean more than 3/4 of the book took place in 4 days! 4 days and we have the heroine, who has been let down by every man in her life (and has some serious trust issues) completely falling for the hero. I mean really, realistically, it would take a much longer time for her to trust a man so absolutely. Isabel runs a house protecting young women which was a bit improbable but acceptable. What wasn’t was how she actually climbed on a roof to try to fix it, in full view of the hero. I just felt like banging my head on a wall, her behavior was so beyond what was acceptable.

And then after being let down the first half by the H and H, I waited to meet the characters from the first book and spend more time with them but even that was a letdown. The heroine didn’t even meet any of the previous characters! They all appeared for like two pages and were gone! The only light here was meeting the hero for the next book, who will prove interesting!

The love scenes were bland as well, and just seemed like copies of the love scenes in the first book-Looks like the brothers really are twins-they even have sex the same way!! :O I just found the scenes cheesy and unlikely as Isabel just seemed to jump right onto Nick’s lap without even the slightest consideration for propriety or even the smallest concern for her virtue.

Please, Ms MacLean, I know you can do much better than this! I’ll be reading your next book just because I have so much faith in you!

Sensuality Rating: Hot (Long and explicit scenes)

Final Verdict: Sorry to say, but you should skip this one and wait for book three!

*This is Book One in the Scandal series*

Review:

OMG, I have been waiting for this book since forever! I knew it would be good, but I never expected it to be THIS good! Delilah has outdone herself with this one!

Seriously, from the moment I started it, I was hooked. The sexual tension is spot on, the chemistry is there, the dialogue is funny, the romance is simply heart wrenching and all in all this is a first-rate romance!

The Duke of Bradford has a secret obsession and this is the cause of the conflict of the novel. Bradford is an awesome hero! Even though he has to deal with a lot, he’s always there for our heroine, and my god, is he sexy! He’s exactly the tall, dark, brooding hero you want to read about!

Justine, the heroine, is the light to Bradford’s dark. She’s so unlike the typical women of the time and the perfect match for Bradford-I LOVE how she enters his house with a pistol to demand to see him. Her upbringing was unusual and this definitely shows through. She’s strong and determined and the perfect one to help Bradford with his obsession.

Justine’s father is making a case against the law that bans sodomy in England. This was interesting to read about. I must have mentioned it so many times already but for me, no historical romance is complete without adding historical facts and context. Delilah doesn’t disappoint here and I found it interesting to read about this topic.

The story has it’s dark elements but it also funny and fast-paced. Delilah has a very sexy sense of humor which I thoroughly enjoyed! 😉  I found it very hard to put this one down as the plot was continually pulling me into the story. The sexual tension was wired so tight, it was almost at breaking point and it was totally yummy and kept me hooked!

The series is tied together with a little red book known as How to Avoid the Scandal and the way it is used in this novel was hilarious. I love how every chapter starts with a tongue-in-cheek paragraph of advice from the book which turns out to be broken hehe. I can’t wait to read how it the book will be used in the next two books! 😀 (Strike that, I can’t wait to read the next two books, period!) It’s nearly impossible to find something wrong with this book because it was just so well-crafted! The characters were fleshed out, the chemistry was there, the plot was always intriguing.

So, a strong, sexy hero to die for, a heroine we’ll all like to be, oodles of sexual tension, lots of humor and a plot you just cannot get away from! What does this mean? A perfect historical romance!

Sensuality Level: Steamy (Explicit love scenes)

Final Verdict: Fantastic! Buy it, just buy it!
