*The first book in the Dressmakers Trilogy*
Summary:
Brilliant and ambitious dressmaker Marcelline Noirot is London’s rising star. And who better to benefit from her talent than the worst-dressed lady in London; the Duke of Clevedon’s intended bride? Winning the future duchess’s patronage means prestige and fortune for Marcelline and her family. To get to the lady, though, Marcelline must win over Clevedon, whose standards are as high as his morals are…not.
The prize seems well worth the risk. This time, though, Marcelline’s met her match. Clevedon can design a seduction as irresistible as her dresses; and what begins as a flicker of desire between two of the most passionately stubborn charmers in London soon ignites into a delicious inferno . . .and a blazing scandal.
And now both their futures hang by a thread of silk…

Review:
My second book from Loretta Chase, this one caught my attention because of the idea of three dressmakers running their own shop. Never read a heroine who was a dressmaker before! Pair that with a cold, arrogant duke who’s always had whatever he wanted and you have a great opposites attract story!
From the moment the book begins, it is pure magic-a beautiful, romantic, touching, witty, well-researched story that is as expertly crafted as one of Marcelline’s fine dresses! I loved everything about this book! 😀 The hero, the heroine, the secondary characters, the romance, the chemistry, the sexual tension, the plot, the historical accuracy-heck even the dresses were too delicious to be true! This has got to be one of the best romances this year-simply magnificent! 😀
Our hero Clevedon is your typical haughty and cold duke but from the moment he meets Marcelline, something magical happens. The tension and chemistry is absolutely sizzling and, no surprise here, he can’t wait to see her again. Marcelline has her own plans for seducing the duke and naturally doesn’t expect to fall in love.
I loved Marcelline! Such a great character-intelligent, independent and determined and yet with a softer side hiding underneath all that! Now this is a woman to admire! And Clevedon is perfect for her! I loved watching how Clevedon realized what an amazing woman Marcelline is and how lucky he is to be blessed with so much fortune.
The plot was so well-weaved and so well-written that at times I was quite in awe! Add in tidbits of historical facts, and you really do have the best example of a historical romance out there. I often felt in the hands of a master and was quite surprised, considering I did not love the first book I read from this author (Don’t Tempt Me). I really felt like I was there in the novel with Marcelline viewing all these gorgeous dresses and flirting with the duke 😉 Ms. Chase really hit it out of the park with this one!
All in all, a beautiful, well written, wonderful love story of two people fighting against the odds to be together! I was quite properly seduced by Marcelline and her dressmaking sisters and I guarantee you will be too! 😉
Sensuality Rating: Hot! (Love scenes are long and explicit)
Verdict: Simply perfect!
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!
